Second Draft Analysis

After sir saw the second draft, me and our teacher had a meeting on zoom with Fatima, so that she noted all the points that sir told I  missed anything. At the this point the man problem that I was facing was that even making the video 2 times, I still wasn’t exactly understanding what my teacher was trying to convey. The mistakes that I was making was more as whole rather than some shots.

So, he explained it to me step by step what had to be done and Fatima kept taking notes. The call ended up being very helpful and now I clearly

First Draft Analysis

After making the first draft, I discussed the video with my team mates. There were some tiny changes that were to be made and the main thing was that the waking up clips were still not complete. So I made a list of all the additions and changes so that planning for the final draft gets easy.

The next day Fatima sent me three clip of the same girl brushing her teeth but it wasn’t enough for the space we had left in our video after cutting out the useless girl waking up one so I decided to ask my brother to shoot me and then I shot his clip.

WhatsApp Image 2020-04-12 at 2.16.50 PMIt literally took us only 10 minutes to shoot the clips, including the time of changing the bed sheets for my bro’s shoot.

We used the same location for the both shoots. After doing this, we both also shot each others smiles that we can include the smiles at the end.

First Draft (making)

After I got all the instructions from the teacher and group, I started working on the rough cut again.

I started with downloading traffic noise and pigeon noise from youtube through mp3 converter online.

2

Then I added both of the sound effects at the same time while making the noise of the pigeon a bit more louder so that we could hear it clearly against the traffic sound. I really couldn’t figure out how to make the sound louder so i searched on youtube and took help from it. Turned out that if you moved the fine line between the two sound effects, one over another, it became louder than the one over .

1

Completing the previous step, I use another wide shot of the bus stop scene in which the frame looked a bit better than the one before. I converted all the shots into jump cuts so that it looked fast paced. After this I made the song start from the last shot of the bus stop when the man starts smiling. In this way the main idea of the song, which is happiness, starts from the beginning.

2

After getting over with the bus stop scene, I started to search for good performance clips of the artist because our teacher suggested that either you out different quick shots together or one performance shot. Now that we don’t have one continuous performance shots so I had to use various shots, with jump cuts of course.

3

After this I removed the first clip of the theme park ride and add another one because the close-up really wasn’t working in this case. I was instructed to convert the clip into slow-motion but the thing is that the ride was already working slowly, so it worked better as it is.

4

Moving on, brought back the phone shots to the original scale. I tried making them bigger at the first place, scrolling through editing option all over Premier because I thought there was some kind of an effect option that would make it bigger, without ruining the quality of the video of course. Turned out that all I had to do was to double click on the screen and a scale appeared. Using one of the corners you stretch the clip to fit the full screen.

Preparing for rough cut

I kept saving all the data in my laptop as well as in a usb so that I had back-up as well. Even after we finished with the production I asked all my of group members to hand there usb over to me so that I can give them all the data as well so that they have all the data a well. The problem that I faced during this storage was that the files took a lot space so my laptop really slow, especially because I kept all the data on the desktop. I didn’t care about it at that time but later it caused more problems than I imagined.

Anyways, I made a list of of the videos that were approved by our teacher and saved all in a usb while keeping the shot list in mind. This sequence proved to be very helpful in making the editing easier and also gave it to my team mates just incase.

Before jumping out on the editing I took a few random clips from the sequence and tried and experimented with it. First it looked quite complicated to add attach and cut clips but turned out to be really easy once I got into practice. The easier way was to actually drag and drop the clips straight from the folder. In this way sorting out can also be done side by side.

Then the second thing that I learnt was how to delete audio while keeping the video. Its quite a lengthy process that you lock the video first then delete the audio then unlock for every single clip you insert.

Learning Adobe Premiere

Finally! the time has come to refine our efforts into a whole different look.

None of us had experience of editing with Adobe Premiere really because even the video workshop we had, we used imovie which was much more simple as compared to adobe premiere. Our teacher gave us a brief tutorial on the basics and some of it’s important  features.

It was very useful and I tried record I every step just incase I need help later with the editing and secondly the videos helped everyone with later on so, proved to be very informative.

What I’ve learnt for this tutorial is that there are only a few basic things which we need  to know and that is how to import the videos a audio, how to cut them, join them and a few more important tools.

Shoot Analysis

After we completed shooting the clips, we discussed them with our teacher to sort out the best ones aside. Personally I think that although our shoot wasn’t up to the professional standard but us taking out flaws from our own work on the end of the day and recovering it made us recognize the difference between good and bad shoots. What aspects made a shoot successful.

Me and Fatima sat and sorted out the clips while saving the best ones separately for possible rough cut. This was a very important step as well because judging from the detailed shoot we had done, we didn’t need to shoot more clips because if we cut them short then a lot details would have been missed so we decided to increase the duration rather than add more clips
